The power of focus mode & multiple Bible translation in obsidian.
Plus ideas for craft, notion, and footnotes! Welcome to Biblically connected 10
Hi again, It’s been a funny week for me with both less work, but still very busy!
Perhaps I added more work for myself by adding the iOS 15 beta on initially my iPad and then iPhone. I managed to resist last year and wait for the general release, but the new “focus modes” really appealed to me. I’ve set up a new work one which has really helped avoid certain distractions. It’s also made me miss one meeting so I need to adjust the settings a bit!
Still, I really like features like this which can help promote time well spent.
Hopefully it will help not just with my day job but spending more intentional family time and deeper study times.
Passage
“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,”
2 Timothy 1:7–8 ESV

Craft gets an update and a back to school discount
In addition to a few small updates, Craft is offering a discount for students and teachers as they go back to school.
Things 3 adds markdown support.
Okay, a task management app. I know. But I’m starting to wonder if I should branch out a bit more with this newsletter. Keep the focus on connected notes but also tools that… connect 🥁 to them as well. Markdown support for a task management is an interesting move and it certainly complicated my decisions over what task manager I should use (I need to either upgrade todoist or buy the mac version of things 3 or omnifocus… )
The Bible as a Notion template
This is a really handy little notion template that you could use for tracking your bible reading or making connected notes. Check it out.

Readwise is a fantastic service for saving all your highlights and notes from different books, tweets, thread and web pages. I’ve been using it for a while and enjoy it but also wonder if I’m really getting value from it (that’s another discussion). I’m still wary of automatically connecting these two services as I don’t want all my book notes to come into Obsidian, but that’s me. Maybe you do! So this would be fantastic news for you.
I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments.
Reed shares how he adds notes to Bible verses using footnote and the plugins which help. Really great for obsidian BKM practitioners.
Using multiple translations in Obsidian
I missed this last week but over in the obsidian fourm, mkudija shared a way to have and reference from multiple translations. I’m still not sure I want to complicate my system so much but I can see the benefit.

Thanks for taking the time to read this week. I have another interview scheduled for next week’s newsletter as well as new video coming out Monday (I made a mistake and had to record it twice…plus it was a busy week).
